I want mountain legs

As promised, a new video appears at www.davepidgeon.net. Filmed on location, edited in the man cave at home, coming to you via the Internet.

The focus of the new Compass Points is the Delaware Water Gap Challenge, which is an enjoyable and – as the name suggests – challenging way to get rid of that winter stiffness in your joints. I haven’t gotten outside as much as I would have like to this winter. Before the “big” backpacking projects to come when the weather warms up, I like to work on restoring my mountain legs with a few day hikes aimed at pushing your heart rate and muscle endurance. With Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, you not only get one but two such hikes.

I’ll let the video tell you the rest. At times during the hikes Saturday, winter suggested it won’t disappear without a struggle, mainly your struggle to stay warm. But at other moments on the trail, you’d emerge where the sun shone unblocked by trees or clouds, and you could sense a suggestion of spring, which is inching closer by the day. March is my least favorite month, but it’s what you have to get through for spring to arrive.
