Cycling the Americas

Cycling long distances just seems like a kickass way to see the world.

I’ve been convinced of this after watching riders complete the City-To-Shore marathon in southern New Jersey and reading author Mark Jenkins’ “Off the Map” about the attempt to cross the Soviet Union on peddles, chains and two wheels.

While I don’t currently own a bike or spandex (the latter which pleases my friends very much), I live vicariously through others like Mark Beaumont, a Brit who’s attempting to cycle from Anchorage to Argentina. And to make things a little saucy, he’s scaling McKinley and Aconcagua, the highest peaks in North and South America respectfully. You can follow his exploits at this Web site, and watch for a BBC special to come later.
