Skyscraper canyons

I’ve written before about the joy of paddling a kayak through a downtown canyon, and National Geographic Adventure a few days ago listed what they believe are the best North American cities to paddle in:

  • San Francisco
  • Chicago
  • Washington, D.C.
  • Pittsburgh
  • Portland, Maine
  • Boston
  • New York City
  • Portland, Oregon
  • Seattle
  • Toronto

I’ve written before to sing the praises of Kayak Pittsburgh, an excellent way to spend a day in the Iron City passing under the numerous bridges, spying the sports stadiums, staring up at the downtown skyscrapers brightly reflecting the sun off a million windows.

So if you’re a city dweller needing a little escapism and can’t make it to the wilderness, those skyscraper canyons work just fine.
