CHALLENGING CERRO CHATO

The main star of Nacional Parque Volcán Arenal in Costa Rica is the 5,400-foot high smoking volcano, but its neighbor, the once volcanic but now dormant Cerro Chato, provides some spectacular experiences of its own. Be forewarned, however – Although Cerro Chato is at 3,800 feet above sea level smaller than Arenal Volcano, hiking to Chato’s lagoon is no easy walk.
